- Sophie had a friend over after school on Friday. The way playdates work here seems to be that the invitee has "tea" with the inviter, and then is picked up by Mum or Dad at around 6.30. Which means it's all a bit more work, as "tea" in this context translates to "evening meal". So either the whole family eats at 6, or the kids eat first and then a separate meal has to be cooked for the adults later. We went with option A on Friday, and as a result were all absolutely starving again by 10.30.
- We looked at two houses on Saturday.
- First, the horribly dirty house we'd already viewed a couple of weeks ago, because the agent called us up and practically begged us to look at it again.
- It was even filthier this time around. Seriously, I don't know how those people can live under those conditions. It - literally - stank. I saw the teenage son and he looked quite clean and normal ... must have an amazing immune system if he's survived that house for fourteen or so years.
- The house could be lovely, though, if it were fixed up. But we don't think we have the mettle (or the money) to do it.
- We put an offer in on the second house we saw. Has everything on our checklist, and feels like it could be home.
- Our offer is lower than they're asking though, so they could well reject it.
- We should hear from them tomorrow.
- Funnily enough I'm not at all tense about this.
- We went into London today to try out a different Unitarian church.
- We are cautiously optimistic about it; it seemed like it might be a good fit for us. Just a pity it's an hour away.
- However, we went climbing afterwards for the first time in far too long - the gym is relatively close to the church - so we are thinking of making Sundays into a church/climbing day.
- I am fighting the blues right now. Today had made me miss our old church and our old gym - and our old life - intensely. I have committed the cardinal moving sin of comparing old with new ... always leads to misery.
