This is a picture of thrift run mad, that is what it is.

The shoe laces in Bobby's hiking boots broke the other day. So he replaced them with the spare ones that came with Stephen's new shoes. Only, those were a gleaming luminous white that looked distinctly odd with his old, battered boots. So he's dyeing the shoe laces brown. With tea.

I suppose that at least this way, if he's hiking somewhere and he needs energy, he can suck on a shoe lace for a quick caffeine hit.
