Day One

Today was the first full day of college for the new lower sixth students. Which meant the first full day of teaching after the summer for me.

And it really was a full day - my timetable on a Monday is solidly packed.

But all that preparation paid off; my lessons went like clockwork and all the students - well, almost all - seemed interested and engaged. Which bodes well for the rest of the year.

I had that first-day new-routine energy today. Put in a full day at work, went grocery shopping on the way home, cooked dinner, vacuumed, did a bit of marking, and all without feeling irritable. The challenge, of course, is to maintain that level of activity once the initial adrenaline rush disappears.
