The sun shone on Saturday.
There's a drought here (though it's supposed to rain tomorrow) so we've had glorious weather for the past three weeks.
My parents spent the day with us - they've just got back from a month in Cape Town - and it was lovely. We (the adults, that is) spent almost the whole day lounging in deckchairs under the trees at the bottom of the garden, enjoying the weather. The kids were a bit busier - Ems had a party to go to, Stephen had to study (his exams finish on Tuesday, thank God) and Soph spent a lot of time reading on the roof of the garden shed, a lot of time playing on her stilts, and a lot of time hitting a tennis ball about.
I was outraged by an article which today's paper featured about feeding children healthily. Pictured in the arms of a chef who was spouting off about good food choices for children was a 6-week old baby sucking on a bottle. Kind of takes away from his credibility as a source of information about healthy eating.
I accidentally hurt Bobby's feelings yesterday with a thoughtless comment. I feel terrible about it.
I think he is okay now though.
We went for a long walk this morning, just the two of us.
This is the view we walked up to see. It is strange that there is all this tranquility just half-an-hour away from the middle of London.
My legs ache a little bit this evening.
Bobs has been trying to convince me that I should get a bike and ride to work instead of walking, so I borrowed Steve's this afternoon, and Bobby and I rode about half-way to my work.
Would have gone the whole way, but we had to be home in time for the match. I cannot wait till the world cup is over. Though I will admit that even I got excited when Ghana beat the USA.
Riding was certainly infinitely quicker than walking, and the hills were not quite as gruelling as I'd thought they'd be.
But, I found the cars a bit unnerving, which - since it was a Sunday afternoon right before an England match, so there was almost no traffic - makes me think I'd find a work-day ride rather terrifying. I'll try again next weekend - ride the whole way, maybe - and see how it goes, I think.
