We chickened out of putting an offer in on the house.
We realised that the sellers must be quite canny; they have gone to quite elaborate lengths to make sure that their house shows to best advantage. For instance, both times we looked at the house, there was nary a laundry basket to be seen, so that the small bathroom seemed reasonable sized. (And where could they have hidden all their laundry? It's a family of four, so they must have a bit. We can't think how they dry their washing, either. There's no tumble dryer, and we didn't see a clothes line or clothes horse anywhere.) Nothing at all on the tiny kitchen counter - not even a kettle - so that it seemed bigger. No coat rack or shoe shelf by the front door, so that the entrance way seemed airy and spacious. The polar opposite of the disgustingly dirty house we looked at last Saturday, essentially.
So now we are wondering what the house would look like on a normal day. A lot less attractive, I suspect.
Anyway, we decided we'll use our camping trip as an opportunity to think things over a bit more. And if we lose the house ... well, so be it. There'll be another one.
