I spent most of today either absolutely freezing cold, or utterly bored, or both.

The Year 8's spent the day in the grounds today (the school is set in a huge, gorgeous park) and I spent it there with them. They did English and Drama outdoors for the first half of the day, and Geography (aka learning about trees and hunting for various insects) after lunch. Could have been quite enjoyable, except for the fact that it was so miserably cold. I froze, despite all layers I was wearing. The wind was howling, the sky was grey, my eyes were watering from the cold, my teeth were literally chattering at some points, and I couldn't feel my fingers inside my gloves. And to add insult to injury I got roped into doing some roleplaying during the English and Drama bit (so not my forte), as some poor kid was partnerless. Oh, and then we finished an hour early, so the teachers had the bright idea of dragging the kids at least a mile up the hill to a (somewhat) picturesque viewpoint. Of course the kids did not appreciate this one little bit (and why would they, when it's a choice between Warm Indoors and Icy Walk Whose Only Purpose Is To Kill Time?), and, although I actually did quite enjoy the walk, I too was rather bitter when (a) we got back fifteen minutes late and (b) I realised that I still had to walk home, making for a grand total of around 8 miles today.

Oh, and because I was trapped outside in the icy gale all day, I did not get a chance to approach my boss about the graduate teaching programme thing ... Tomorrow. I'm a bit nervous about broaching the subject, but the deadline for applications closes soon so I can't afford to procrastinate.
