I felt terribly efficient and organised this morning as I simultaneously scrambled eggs, made a pot of tea, and got tonight's dinner into the crockpot, all before 7am.
The illusion vanished, however, when, during the process, I spattered the entire front of my cream sweater with soy sauce, and had to scrounge through the laundry basket to find a half-way presentable alternative to wear to work.
I enjoyed work once I got there, though, and the crockpotted dinner turned out delicious.
Right now, we are drinking our post-dinner coffee and waiting for this week's grocery delivery to arrive.
Online grocery shopping has definitely been a huge success for us. It's totally painless, it makes meal planning easy, and, because we refuse to go to the grocery store between deliveries, saves us money. If we forget something or run out of something, we just do without till the next delivery.
I particularly enjoy not having to bag up my groceries myself. I am so incompetent at the bagging process. Most of the time I forget to take my own bags with me, so I have to use the store bags. Then I struggle to detach each one from the holder (there's a magical tag you have to pull, but it always eludes me). Meanwhile groceries are piling up and, now that I've detached the bag, I can't make it open. And when I finally get it open, things don't get much easier. I start off by making some token attempt to fill the bags in a rational way, but I soon degenerate into random bag-stuffing as the groceries build up around me and the other people in the queue start rolling their eyes. And then the paying - I'm still loading the groceries up, and now I have to find my debit card from amongst the chaos in my purse and put it into the machine (which way up?) and remember my pin number ... and I'm too hot at this stage because it's freezing cold outside so I have a big heavy coat on and I'm wishing to God that I'd never had any children because then we wouldn't have to buy all this bloody food, and wondering why, since I do have children, they are not here helping me bag it all up ....
That is why I like online shopping.
Of course, if our groceries do not arrive within the next half-hour, I will be singing a very different tune.
