I got an email from someone in South Africa today who couldn't understand why we weren't on our way home post-haste following the election disaster. The thing is, people overseas tend to tar all Americans with the same brush, in the same way that it would be easy to tar all white South Africans with the same brush. But this is a huge and diverse country, and very nearly half of it didn't vote for W. Take a look at this website; it goes some way to explain why we're still here. Some of the nicest people I've ever met, I've met here. And some of the most beautiful places I've ever visited are in this country.
