Bobby and I went for a bike ride before the kids woke up.
Who could resist riding through frozen puddles? We got home at about 9ish and the fields still looked like this...
One more...
Blue sky! So far this winter I've taken myself by surprise in that the greyness hasn't bothered me. I love the sun when it comes out, but I've been finding a lot of beauty in the foggy drizzle too.
When we got home Bobs went to fly his plane, and the girls baked cookies while I did some lesson prep. Poor Steve is ill; I think he may have the same cold I had last weekend. Being a man, though, he is even more miserable than I was. After lunch the girls were reminiscing about Christmasses past, and Sophie remembered us making salt dough ornaments, so we decided to make some more. A couple of hours and a glittery kitchen later, we had some new decorations for the tree.
Ah, the tree... When we first moved here we bought a fake one, which of course we can now never get rid of because the landfill guilt would kill us. Anyway, we dragged it down from the garage loft space, and then realised that one of its feet was missing. We experimented with a variety of possible solutions, some involving a drill, none of which worked, and and were about to give up in frustration and despair when Bobby searched the garage one last time, and found the missing foot. Under the freezer. Can't think what made him try there, but I'm glad he did! We can thank Sunday trading hours for that (the shops close at 4 sharp on a Sunday) as, if buying a different tree had been an option, we probably would have caved in and got one when none of our potential fixes worked.
The tree is up now, and decorated, lights and all. And Sophie has been terribly efficient and already wrapped some of the presents she's bought and put them under it.
Most of the presents are organised because we went Christmas shopping as a family yesterday. It was surprisingly fun. The kids went off together to do their shopping, and Bobby and I went to choose things for them. We're being fairly frugal this year but I think they'll like the things we picked. We ate at Nando's afterwards; totally delicious! Luckily Steve wasn't sick at that stage...I hope he feels better in the morning...

I, too, love fog and rain.
England seems very beautiful.
The ride sounds exquisite.
As does the family shopping. . .
I can't imagine sending my kids off alone while my G and I go shopping together. That will be great fun.
I've yet to purchase one gift. This is very unlike me.
