Teachers' Toolkit

Now this is really scary.

A school where the teachers are allowed to bring loaded guns into the classroom. Just in case they need to shoot someone. As one so often does, during the course of the school day.

But you can't accuse them of taking unneccessary risks - apparently they're going to be using a type of bullet that's less likely to ricochet than the regular kind.

And to think I thought I was well-equipped for the start of the new term because I bought a new pencil case!

Unsurprisingly, that's the next county over from my hometown in Texas. My sister-in-law attended that school. The superintendent's attitude is typical for that part of the world. I can't tell you how grateful I am to have my kids out of there!

I was expecting to see NY or CA or IL or some state with a big bad city in it (not that it would make it ok in my mind but I was expecting to read a story of some really crime filled area) so it's even more creepy to see such a small city allowing their teachers to carry guns...scary on so many levels.

My 13 year old has just started high school and asked me last night if I thought "the rumours of kids bringing knives to school" was true!!!! In my very coolest Mum voice I said "oh you've been watching way too much telly", when I was thinking "OMG". I have to shake my head when I think about what kids and teachers worry about these days in schools. I work in a bank and I hardly ever think about bank robbers, maybe once a month when I do my security update.
