One good thing about the credit crunch (somehow I always think of breakfast cereal when I hear that phrase) is that
this study in today's Independent says that people are driving less. Apparently congestion on the major roads is down 12%, compared 2007. So it might cost us more to get somewhere by car, and we'll have to drive slowly to eke out each precious drop of fuel, but the roads'll be less crowded when we travel. I'm so glad that we don't have to use our car much; I hope neither of us ever needs to get a job which would take us out of cycling distance from home. My ride to work is so quick and easy that it makes a really nice start to the day. Though I must admit that going back to work yesterday after our 6-week break was a bit of shock to the system. Getting up early, getting dressed in work clothes, and then actually having to
do some work...It was all quite gruelling. And then I had to do the same thing again today! It felt a bit more do-able today though - fun, even - so presumably I will get back into the swing of things at some stage. I do miss being with the kids, though...

the driving less would be wonderful it if meant also walking/biking more.
in my case, not.
just home bound more often.
Let me see. The silver lining there is that I am reading more to my children *and* playing with them more, and finding more (free) things to do with them at home. :D
