We went climbing at High Rocks on Sunday - first time in ages. It was a beautiful day, and we had a good time.
I hope this lovely weather continues - though it does make it hard to go to work when the sun is shining outside ...
Oh, something slightly awkward at work - my boss - thanks to my accent I assume - believes that Bobby's name is Barbie. Like the doll.
I think maybe English people say "Bobby" with the "o" sound more clipped? The first time she referred to "Barbie" I thought I'd misheard her. The second time I said "You mean, Bobby?" and she said "yes", so I thought we'd cleared it up. But since she's still saying "Barbie" when she mentions him I presume she thought I said, "You mean, Barbie?". I have no idea how I'm going to fix the misunderstanding, but I'd better do it before it goes too far and we end up having to pretend that he really is named Barbie.
All part of the joys of moving countries, I suppose.

Could be worse. Actually, no, I don't think it could be.
Hahahahaha. Sorry but that is funny.
Maybe you can wear a t-shirt to work that says I LOVE BOBBY. And then she'll get it. ;-)
barbie? since when did that become a male name? Or even a female name for anyone who isn't in the adult industry.
Maybe your boss thinks that his name is Bar-by like the Australians use for having a Bar-b-Que party? Either way it's weird.
We are having a few days of spring here in NY...it's rather delightful and probably short lived. But we are enjoying it!!
I have to wonder if it's possible that her accent making it sound like "Barbie". My London-born husband tends to add "R" to some words without realizing it...for example, "Diana" becomes "Dia-nerr" when he says it.
Even more oddly, he cannot hear the "R". I've tried to point out the difference many times, but to his ear, "Diana" and "Dian-err" sound exactly the same.
Lili, it's not that, because I've heard her say "Bobby" quite normally, referring to someone else ... Sadly, I think she genuinely believes I'm married to a man named Barbie :-) I think I may go with Chris's suggestion ... or get his name tattooed on me, maybe? Or, perhaps, just tell her, next time it comes up. ;-) She is really nice so that is probably the best path.
