I am amazed by how much we managed to pack on top of, and inside, the car.
On top went all our camping stuff, all the climbing gear, the ladder, the rake, the stilts, and the pogo stick. Inside went us, as well as the lawnmower, the edge-trimmer, assorted tools, the badminton net, and various rackets and balls and whathaveyou. Basically, everything which had been lurking in our garden shed. And my pot-rack, which I love, but which I really need to give away, because it won't go in the rental house, nor in the house that we're buying.
Driving aside, it was a nice day for all of us. The kids proved they could amuse themselves by playing football with the widget from my dad's beer can.
I put the link in just in case there's anyone who (like me, up till yesterday afternoon) has no clue what these are or what they do.
After lunch we went for a walk to a nearby marina, where I indulged in a brief fantasy of buying a boat rather than a house, and sailing to somewhere sunny and beautiful and then writing a best-selling book about my experiences.
Can't quite remember why I decided against that plan. Tropical beaches seem even more alluring than they did yesterday as I sit here waiting for Bobby to get out of the shower so that we can eat dinner. He got caught in the rain cycling home, and got wet enough that he could pour about a cup of water out of each shoe before he came in the front door. I predict that dinner-table conversation will include pointed comments about fair-weather cyclists who wimp out when it rains.
I really need to try to get to bed early tonight. We got home after midnight last night, and I was so tired at work today that I was getting that bug-eyed glazed stare that happens when your eyes are trying to close but you know you Must Look Alert Because You Are At Work.

I love the picture of all the stuff on the car. Now you can be known as the gyspies who moved not to far away.
I always thought that a widget was some sort of gidgie. Thanks for clearing that one up for me.
Seems like the moving isn't going to badly...I'm glad!
I can totally believe that you packed so much on and in your car! You guys are SO very creative and able.
DH has told many a story about people in europe moving their entire households in and atop of those *baby* fiats...
Poor Americans and our huge arse vehicles - and then we still need to hire moving vans ;-)
Hope the end result brings all you need and hope for!
