Well, I survived.
And I didn't lose anyone.
But my feet hurt, which I think must mean that I am getting old.
It was 6pm when I got finally home, so a long tiring day. Lots of walking - from school to the station, and then from London Bridge to the Globe Theatre, followed by the Tate Modern, over the Millenium Bridge to St Paul's Cathedral, on to the Bank of England museum (not very interesting, that one), followed by the city hall, past the Tower of London, and on to the HMS Belfast (a naval cruiser that served in WW2). And then back to the station at a brisk trot and home, thank God.
It was lovely to be outdoors on such a glorious day. Blue skies and sun again today; in fact it actually got hot - 32 or 33 degrees I think (somewhere around 90F) - which was lovely.
The kids enjoyed the trip for the most part, though it suffered from the great failing of school trips in that there was no time for anything to be explored in depth or for anyone to follow their own interests. At the Tate Modern, for instance, the kids were really intrigued by some of the displays, and were longing to wander off and explore, but we were forced to stick to the areas that we had to answer questions on and then get going.
All the overtime hours I've logged during last week's exam invigilation and today's trip mean that I should be able to take Friday off (they won't give us cash for overtime, but they do let us take hours off instead). It's an inset day at Em's school so she'll be off; it'll be nice to have some peaceful time alone with her.
