Last night was fun. Bobs got a pay increase and a bonus, so we went out to dinner to celebrate. A lovely midweek interlude; we eat out so seldom these days that it's a real treat for us. And we came home and ate Maltesers and watched Cold Fever - quirky and fun, I really enjoyed it.
Work today was good too. (Unlike yesterday, when I was bored and/or frustrated for most of the day). Apart from the fact that I arrived a few minutes late. Late! Me, the queen of Neurotic Punctuality! The horror!
It was all Sophie's fault; she left her backpack in the car when she hopped out, so I had to drive back to give it to her. I must admit to wishing that I'd simply ignored my phone when it rang five minutes after I'd dropped her off. After all, if I'd been uncontactable, she would have just had to do without her pencil-case (which is all her bag really contains) and I would have been on time. But, having answered, I had to be a Good Mother and reunite her with her bag. It wasn't the end of the world that I was late, though; I snuck up the back stairs and was in the classroom about two minutes after I was supposed to be there; don't think anyone noticed anything, thank goodness.
And, while I'm sounding so terribly responsible - I have not heard anything further about whether the school will sponsor me through the graduate teaching programme. So later this evening I will have to email the principal, the head of the English department, and my boss. I think I will also draft a letter to send to a couple of other local schools, in case my current school turns me down. Ugh. I really don't feel like doing either of those things at all.
But I will. I suppose.
I will also give the downstairs a quick going-over; my folks will be arriving here tomorrow when I'm at work and it would be nice if the house was vaguely presentable when they get here. They'll be spending tomorrow night with us after a few days' holiday in the Scilly Isles.
