The first house we looked at this afternoon was like a gnome house. Sweet, but freakishly tiny. I felt like a giant in it, all arms and legs and big clodhoppery feet. Which goes to show how tiny it was, since I am a shade under 5'3". And the room which they'd described as a bedroom/study - well, truly, it was the size of a small cupboard. Smaller than a bed.
The house was in a great location though. And awfully pretty; one of those period cottagey houses. Lovely original wood floors, and a dear little garden.
But, definitely not an option for us. I don't think Stephen and Bobby would even fit through the front door.
The second house was very different; more imposing and solid. A dowager aunt of a house. It had a garage (a plus in an area where most people have to find parking in the street), it's in easy walking distance of both schools, and the bedrooms could all actually fit beds into them (though the third bedroom couldn't fit much else besides a bed.) Lots that we'd have to change inside though; the aggressively tomato-soup coloured carpet on the stairs and landing, for instance. And the embossed wallpaper in the livingroom. No big deal to do that, though ... This house could be a possibility for us, though it doesn't have the magic feel that the "right" house should have.
