The Food Tech teachers must have nerves of steel. Teenagers, sharp knives and hot oil ... recipe for disaster if you ask me.
Today I helped a 16 year old boy cook a lasagne, from scratch, in 50 minutes. We managed (it turned out quite well, actually), but God, I felt like I needed a stiff drink afterwards. And I couldn't even have a cup of tea, because we'd had to work through break in order to get it finished. On Thursday I have to do it all again : double Food Tech, and he has to make two more lasagnes, using a different recipe each time. I can hardly wait.
Teaching those little Year Sevens to knit seems to have gone to my head, because I have been longing to do some knitting myself. Me, the Non-Knitter. It's odd. Bobby is a bit sniffy with me right now, because I have just ordered this kit - in the autumn colours - and he thinks (given my track record as a Person Who Abandons Craft Projects) that it's a complete waste of money. And I must admit, I do sympathise with his point of view. My past is littered with craft projects that I've started and then abandoned. But I've sworn I'll finish this one. I hope I manage, or I'll never live it down.
